Born on February 20, 1954, I spent a solitary childhood painting and drawing on various supports: paper, canvas, wood, and glass. Without a guide, I already felt the pleasure of confronting all these materials.
I then followed studies in graphic arts and applied arts in Paris. It was while working with the technique of reverse painting on glass (peinture sous verre) that I discovered a new means of expression.
After extensive research, I chose glass as the definitive medium. It magnifies the paintings and gilding, while also offering a solid support and technical constraints (drying time, etc.) that I have mastered. In 1990, I set up my studio in the Var, where I still work today.
My interest in the Middle Ages developed through my travels, readings, and encounters. The beauty of Medieval and Oriental iconography naturally inspired me and gave me the desire to offer a vision of an ethereal world, outside of time, trends, and fashions.
My paintings are intended to be a link between our Western and Eastern societies, uniting the great civilizations of the Great Centuries. They highlight the best that peoples have accomplished, emphasizing how cultures mutually influence each other through the arts to enrich us.
I seek to render, in my own way, on glass, my vision of this shimmering world—a vision undoubtedly far removed from the realities of our time. I chose to combine two techniques: illumination (enluminure) (and not miniature, as some believe) and reverse painting on glass, to create true artworks, often in large format. Each work is set in a custom-made art frame.
Although my art is distant from the dominant taste of our era, I chose to dedicate my life to it. My exhibitions and the public's support have convinced me that there is a place for painting outside of time and norms.
Despite the doubts inherent to artists, and sometimes a lack of understanding from my peers, I have chosen to continue practicing with tenacity.
My art knows neither fashions, nor dogmas, nor the constraints of time.
